Obsessive and Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterized by unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental rituals (compulsions) performed to reduce distress or prevent a feared outcome. These obsessions and compulsions can become time-consuming, distressing, and interfere with daily life. Common themes include fears of contamination, harm, perfectionism, religious or moral concerns, and intrusive taboo thoughts. OCD affects individuals of all ages and backgrounds, and it is not a reflection of personality or character.
Anxiety
Anxiety becomes a clinical diagnosis when it is persistent, excessive, and interferes with daily functioning. It goes beyond normal worry or fear and can affect thoughts, emotions, physical health, and behavior. There are a number of different diagnoses under the umbrella of anxiety but the important take away is that Anxiety disorders are common, treatable mental health conditions that can deeply affect a person’s emotional, physical, and social well-being. Understanding and diagnosing anxiety is the first step toward recovery—usually involving therapy (CBT/ERP), lifestyle changes, and sometimes medication.
Chronic Illness and Disability
Having a disability or becoming disabled can be a jarring experience. Here at The Healing Role, we believe in the independent living philosophy in which we center the individual with the disability and work to empower them. We acknowledge that having a disability is not only an individual experience but something that impacts partners and families. We are here to support everyone as they encounter the disability experience.
Depression
Depression, or Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), is a common and serious mental health condition characterized by persistent low mood, loss of interest or pleasure, and a range of emotional, cognitive, and physical symptoms. It is more than just sadness or having a bad day — it’s a clinical syndrome that must meet specific criteria and significantly impair functioning. Depression is a serious, yet treatable condition that can profoundly affect emotional well-being, cognitive function, relationships, and physical health. Early intervention — through therapy (like CBT or IPT), medication, lifestyle support, and social connection — is key to recovery.
Other Diagnoses
It’s impossible to list here all the diagnoses we treat but we’ll share a few things we look for when considering whether a client may be a good fit. We work well with someone who wants more than just symptom control and wants to take back their life, prefers a collaborative approach, someone looking to engage in self exploration and create long term change.
